The above epitaph on the Sutherland's headstones convey
the total map of biodynamic osteopathy in the cranial field.
Anyone who commits to Dr. Sutherland's non-efferent practice of BE STILL realizes the first biodynamic neutral:
The presence of stillness pervades your whole body and auric field.
With the deepening of this neutral, a vast luminous presence emerges, which gradually leads to an infinite consciousness - I AM - in Dynamic Stillness.
When you "KNOW I AM" you have completed the osteopathic biodynamic journey:
At I AM, your biodynamic journey ends.
When you choose it, a post-biodynamic path emerges
as a personal journey to love (see Becker below).
Sutherland's original cranial impulse would not let him go:
"The thought came like a bolt of lightning from the blue 'beveled like the gills of a fish' indicating articular mobility for a respiratory mechanism."
Sutherland evolved cranial work from pre-biodynamic to biodynamic, he publicly articulated biodynamics in 1948:
It has been my endeavor to get as far away from the physical senses as I possibly could, that is, to a point where one begins to experience - to realize 'Be Still and Know.'
If You Practice Dr. Sutherland's
"BE STILL"
Your Consciousness Evolves Without End
Becker said a super-personal surrender to stillness is the end of osteopathic biodynamics:
... it’s as simple as a conscious, personal, even super-personal surrender to this stillness that’s part of our being. This is where osteopathy ends and spiritual healing and the private domain of Faith begin. Silent Partner Interview
Sutherland's journey began as biomechanical cranial, which is a pre-biodynamic medical approach to touch.
However, his original impulse - cranial bones move - drove Sutherland to experiment on himself with helmets. During these experiments he felt a reciprocal movement between the head and sacrum. After deeper examination, he sensed the movement of the cerebrospinal fluid, brain, and spinal cord as one unit. He called this single unit of motion the 'tad pole.' Thus, he discovered that the cranial rhythmic impulse (CRI) moves the tad pole.
The CRI guides functional cranial treatments. However, like biomechanical, functional cranial is pre-biodynamic.
Sutherland thoroughly explored and then taught all aspects of pre-biodynamic medical touch, which included biomechanical and functional CRI-guided cranial. Then, a pivotal event occurred after he moved from the mid-west to Pacific Grove, California.
Sutherland called his California house The Fulcrum, which was on the ocean in Point Pinos near a lighthouse. He could feel the ocean tides as a presence in his body and in the atmosphere around him. He called this the fluid tide, which is the first biodynamic expression of Primary Respiration. Fluid tide emanates from a biodynamic neutral. Again, a biodynamic neutral means the whole-body auric field is suffused with stillness. Here is howe a biodynamic neutral extends the tad pole neutral:
Sensually, during a biodynamic neutral, the tad pole stillness in the brain, spinal cord, and CSF expands to also include the whole body and auric field.
An obvious shift in consciousness occurs when stillness extends beyond the nervous system domain and we encounter the creative power that made the body; Sutherland called this power the unerring potency.
For his biodynamic journey to blossom, Sutherland abandoned all efferent CRI-based medical practices: BE STILL.
He realized that biodynamics is a non-medical realm of consciousness, which we encounter through a biodynamic neutral. Sutherland also discovered that neutral possesses an unerring potency has the power to heal - if - a cranial practitioner can BE STILL, which means he is not efferent and he is not the doer.
Once he ceased efference and stopped being the doer, Sutherland observed neutral's unerring potency take charge of the session and do everything. This opened him to an 'uncanny' power of the unerring potency of the Breath of Life (BOL). As an expression of the spiritual creative forces that made the body, the unerring potency of the BOL exhibits a living, breathing consciousness that possesses Intelligence (Note that Sutherland used a capitol 'I").
Again, fluid tide, the first biodynamic expression of the BOL, possesses an unerring potency that permeates the body's cells and it envelopes our immediate atmosphere.
Sutherland discovered that the unerring potency expresses primary respiration from the Breath of Life. The Breath of Life emanates biodynamic expressions that expand our consciousness. First from CRI to the fluid tide, and then to what Becker called the long tide. This vast luminous domain of consciousness gradually leads to infinite consciousness - I AM, or Dynamic Stillness, which Becker also coined. (For more details, see Chapters 5-9 of the book Stillness.
Even though Sutherland evolved all three types of cranial, he was steeped in deep humility and said that his cranial concept
"It is not mine. It has never been."
After his death, his protégé Dr. Rollin Becker evolved Dr. Sutherland's non-medical, non-doing cranial. Becker introduced 'biodynamic' a term that Embryologist Blechschmidt coined. Becker taught that a biodynamic practice begins in neutral (again, defined as stillness that pervades the body and auric field). Neutral infinitely deepens to the final biodynamic realization of Be Still And Know I AM.
BE STILL means we maintain a non-efferent state of neutral consciousness. This non-medical disposition is required to realize neural, the tides, and the non-tidal domain of Dynamic Stillness, which with continued practice, leads to Pure Breath of Love, a post-biodynamic domain of consciousness.
Again, Becker's book Life In Motion (1997 Rudra Press) established the term biodynamic; it sensually characterizes the inner qualities and the stages of neutral that opens the practitioner to fluid tide and long tide. He also introduced a non-tidal domain of infinite consciousness called Dynamic Stillness (Sutherland's I AM). As mentioned, Becker said
"This (surrender to I AM) is where osteopathy ends and spiritual healing and the private domain of Faith begin."
Dynamic Stillness is a translation of Spanda, a term that came from Becker's tantric practice of Kashmir Shaivism, which he kept private. However, Swami Chetanananda's 2-Volume book, Dynamic Stillness deeply influenced Becker's biodynamic principles. The two volumes were dedicated to Becker.
Becker and his wife's ashes rest under the Mobius Strip sculpture
in the ashram garden in Portland, Oregon.
Review: Becker defined the biodynamic neutral as the moment when the ego and nervous system no longer control the body. Neutral occurs when our presence of stillness pervades the whole body and auric field. This biodynamic neutral is the fulcrum for realizing the fluid tide. As neutral evolves and deepens, our presence of stillness - as consciousness - expands to the edge of the horizon (the limits of our known). We then realize a vast luminous domain of archetypal consciousness that is called the long tide. The long tide gradually escorts consciousness on an ascending journey that leads to a non-tidal domain of infinite consciousness, Dynamic Stillness, which is I AM.
At the realization of I AM, the ego dissolves as a separate self
and merges with the infinite consciousness of The All.
Realizing Dynamic Stillness frees your consciousness from the narcissistic ego complexes and your body reunites with infinite consciousness. Here, the body becomes Whole at infinity because youy realize at I AM that your body is consciousness:
BE STILL AND KNOW I AM
When the ascending tides dissolve in the infinite potency of I AM all that remains is Pure Consciousness.
Realizing I AM
Is THE FULCRUM For Our Second Birth
IF We choose Tt.
At I AM, the fluid and long tide dissolve in the midline, which absorbs the tides and ends osteopathic biodynamics:

Here, if we choose to surrender ego control and we let go into our inner-body infinity,
THE FULCRUM emerges at I AM.
Then, consciousness can descend and implode into our cells.
Here at enfleshment, we begin a personal post-biodynamic Grail Journey that reunite us with love.
We sense the heart's SA Node pulsing Pure Breath of Love
with every heart beat.
The realization of an all-cell Sacred Pulse is the fulcrum
where biodynamic becomes post-biodynamic:
BE STILL AND KNOW I AM
⇓
BE STILL AND KNOW I AM LOVE Amid descent, after the cellular implosion of I AM consciousness, a sacred pulse emanates
the Spanda or Pure Breath of Love
that re-unites your Body with Consciousness, and Love.Body As Love
Again, although he kept it private, Becker's tantric spiritual practice of Kashmir Shaivism informed his biodynamic practice and teachings. This descending spiritual current practice is to realize the Spanda that pulses in the body's cells and throughout the universe.
Becker did not teach, write, or mention in public his tantric Kashmir Shaivism practice. This is because the American Medical Osteopathy was desperate to be seen as scientific in the eyes of official medicine. However, that did not hinder Jacques Duvall, a French osteopath and Becker's protégé: he not only deepened Becker's spiritual impulse, he also introduced ancient Vedic spiritual principles and practices to French DO's.
Meanwhile, two osteopaths, Sutherland's student Anne Wales and Becker's student James Jealous, formed the New England Cranial Study Group. The study group developed an elegant map of osteopathic biodynamics. The New England Study Group crafted precise official osteopathic terms, definitions, and boundaries that they coined as "Biodynamic Osteopathy in the Cranial Field."
The study group crafted an elegant biodynamic osteopathic map; it also compared and contrasted biomechanical and functional pre-biodynamic approaches with a biodynamic cranial practice (See Chapter 4-9 in Stillness).
James Jealous spread the New England Groups' biodynamic findings worldwide to osteopaths, until his unexpected death in February 2021 of an aortic aneurism. Near the end of his life, Jealous had became aware of post-biodynamic spiritual journey. He spoke about love in phase nine of his biodynamic trainings, and in a private class.
However, the French osteopaths who completed Jealous' nine-phase biodynamic training with a French osteopath talk openly about the Black Magma Love, which is an expression of Pure Breath of Love. (See Chapter 9 in Stillness and Chapter 9 Stillness Touch).

REVIEW: The New England study groups' precise definition of a biodynamic neutral: when stillness fills the whole body.
Neutral emerges when the presence of stillness, as potency, expands from the midline to whole body stillness. Then, consciousness expands to the edge of the horizon, and finally into the infinity of Dynamic Stillness that becomes THE Fulcrum, which frees the spirit from the controlling narcissistic ego and Superego.
After realizing neutral, as whole-body stillness, the tides emerge within and gradually escort consciousness on an ascending current journey to the unerring potency of Dynamic Stillness as I AM.
Recall that Dr. Sutherland said his ever-evolving impulse 'did not belong to him' even though it felt like a bolt of lightning 123 years ago.
Sutherland's living Spirit will inspire anyone who is dedicated to
evolving his non-doing principle of BE STILL.The final aspect of Sutherland's biodynamic journey is to cease whatever prevents BE STILL
